Auftragsarbeit - contract work

Er ist fertig mein Auftragsschal. Und damit ich nicht zu viel Verschnitt in der Kette habe, habe ich sie lang genug gemacht, damit er für 2 Schals reicht. Herausgekommen sind 2 und ein halber.

Finished my contract shawl. And that I dont have too much waste in the warp I made it long enough that I get 2 shawls. after taking it from the loom I had 2 shawls and a half.

Der Mittlere ist der Auftragsschal mit handgesponnenem Merinogarn. Wolle überrascht mich immer wieder. Wenn ich damit rechne, dass sie sich zusammenzieht, dann macht sie es nicht, wenn ich denke, dass sie sich nicht zusammenziehen kann, macht sie es garantiert. Und damit sind die Ergebnisse immer wieder eine Überraschung.

The middle one is the ordered with handspun Merino yarn. Wool always surprise me. When I think it will reduced then ist doesn´t and if I think it will not than it makes it with guarantee. And with this I always will have a surprise. 

Der Rechte Schal war mein Erstmuster. Nachdem ich auch mit "gutem" Material zu oft losgelegt habe und sich da gleich der Fehlerteufel eingeschlichen hat, bin ich hier vorsichtig geworden. Außerdem hat das Spinnen über ein halbes Jahr gedauert. Ich hatte 1300m beisammen auf 190g. Zweifach gezwirnt.

The right shawl was my initial sample. After some starting with "good" material that the failure devil was jumping in I was careful. Also that spinning needs more than a half year. I got 1300m on 190gr. twisted 2ply.

Da ich nicht wusste, wieviel ich brauche habe ich also erst mit anderem Material einen Testschal gewebt. Auch gleich in der Länge, die ein Schal haben soll. Als Schussgarn habe ich hier einen von den Strängen genommen, die ich schon vor längerer Zeit mal aus einem Konvolut bei ebay Kleinanzeigen gefunden habe. Von dem Dunkelblau hatte ich nur einen Strang, das schein mir genug für den Schal. In der Tat ist nicht viel übrig geblieben :-)

As I didn´t know how much I need I tried with another yarn the first sample. Also in the right length. As weft I used a yarn that I found in a convolut longer time ago on ebay small advertisings. From the dark blue I had only 1 strand. That looks enough for one shawl. And I still had only a small rest :-)

Das Weben damit ging sehr gut und ich hatte eigentlich von Anfang an den richtigen Anschlag raus *freu

Weaving was very good and I also had from teh beginning the right impact. *smile

Dieses Mal hebe ich kein "Bündchen" in einem anderen Muster angewebt, dass hinterher umgenäht wird. Das hat sich immermal unschön zusammen gezogen. Deshalb gleich rein ins Muster. Erst am Schluss des Musterschals bin ich auf die Idee gekommen, zumindest eine andere Farbe zu nehmen...

This time I didn´t make a "cuff" in another pattern to seem it. In the fromer projects it was more or less wide. That´s why I wove directly the pattern. Just at the end of the first I had the idea to use another color...

Ein Geschenk von meiner Klöppelchefin. Die hatten wohl früher mal eine Weberei und sie hat irgendwo auf dem Dachboden noch ein paar Spulen Garn gefunden. Hier zumindest weiß ich zu 100% dass es Wolle ist! :-)

A gift from my bobbinlace boss. Seems they had a weaving mill in former times and she found some winded bobbins in the attic. Here at least I know that it is 100% wool :-)

3 Mustersätze in grau, einen Trennfaden und weiter gehts.

und da mir beim Stöbern nicht nur das grau in die Finger gefallen ist, sondern auch alle anderen Spulen, habe ich das Reststück mit diesem weiß gewebt. Es ist maschinell gesponnene Wolle, die sehr viel dünner ist, als mein blau.

and as I did not only found the grey but also white I wove the rest of the warp with this. It is an industrial spun wool much more thinner than my blue.

Eine Spule hatte ich mal umgewickelt, damit ich meine großen Schiffchen verwenden kann. Das ist der Rest vom Weiß. Für das Reststück mit 1,20m Endlänge nach dem Waschen, Trocknen und Dämpfen habe ich nicht ganz 2 Spulen gebraucht.

One bobbin I moved months ago onto another bobbin to be able to use my big shuttle. This is what I still have now in white. For the restshawl with 1,20m length after washing, thumbling and steam pressing I need little less than 2 bobbins

Ich finde, beim dunkelblauen sieht man das Muster am schönsten. Ich hoffe, der Auftragsschal kommt trotzdem gut an... und der Rest? Nun seit gestern hab ich ihn irgendwie locker über den Schultern liegen und merke, dass es angenehm wärmt. Allerdings rutscht es immer an irgendeiner Ecke :(

I think on the dark blue the pattern will be seen as best. I hope the ordered shawl nevertheless will bring happieness... and the restpiece? I had it over my shoulder on the evening and felt it makes a warm back and neck. But it always slip down on the different edges :(

 Also einmal in der Länge gefaltet, die Anfänge mal provisorisch fixiert und fertig ist ein Shrug, ein Schal mit Ärmelöffnungen, der über den Rücken läuft.

So I foldes it once in the length, fixed the ends with some stitch markers and finished was a shrug.

Tip top :-) Locker genug, dass es mich nicht einengt und trotzdem nicht mehr verrutsch und damit den Rücken schön warm hält.
Very good :-) Loose that it does not restrickt me but it cannot slip anymore and so tha back will be warm.

Und sonst?

Ich habe die nicht frostsicheren Pflanzen nach innen gebracht.

And what else? 
I brought my non frost plants inside.

Den Knöterich habe ich noch einmal gestutzt und nun wirklich nur ein paar Stängel stehen lassen

The knotweed I cutted once mor and now I let over really only some stems.

 und gucke, er bekommt Blüten!

Mit den abgeschnittenen Blättern habe ich übrigens versucht blau zu färben, wie mit Waid. Aber das hat nicht funktioniert :(  Der Indigo ist wohl in beiden Pflanzen in unterschiedlicher Art eingelagert und muss deshalb auf unterschiedliche Art rausgelockt werden. Was also heißt, dass es mit Knöterich wohl eher beim lindgrün bleiben wird... Na mal schauen. Vielleicht finde ich ja nochwas anderes. Jetzt schau ich erstmal, wie lange diese Pflanze durchhält.

With teh cutted pieces I´d tried to dye like with woad. But it seems the indigo inside the plant has another kind and must extracted different. So the result was not successful :(Means for me that I can dye with this plant maybe only peppermint green... we will see. Maybe I find another instruction.

Now I want to see how long thisplant will live.

ich hoffe, mein Indigo macht jetzt nicht doch noch die Mücke!

and I hope my real Indigo will not die at this point of size!

Und meine Sockenanleitung ist so ziemlich fertig, zumindest der englische Teil. Angefangen habe ich es zweisprachig, aber irgendwann habe ich nur auf englisch weiter gemacht, weil das hin und herspringen mir zu anstrengend war. Nun ja, ich werde wohl den Rest auch noch übersetzten. Wie verrückt es auch ist, dass ich eine Anleitung schreibe, die ich hinterher ins Deutsche übertragen muss... :-)

And the sock instruction is almost finished. At least the English part. Started in 2 languages I switched somewhere into only English as the jumping between the both languages made me confused. Ok, I just will translate the rest into German too. Also if it sounds crazy that I wrote a manual that has to be translated into German... :-)
