Das hab ich nicht gewollt! - I wouldn´t do that!

?" "NEIN! Wo denn??" "Ach, Du findest schon einen Platz, bitte, bitte!" Fast hat der das Weinen angefangen.

No, I would not built up the loom right now. Idon´t have a place for it, I don´t know anything about weaving... No, it should wait on it´s place.
But I slept bad, I heard voices and as I had a look the loom was in the corner sad and said: "I was standing so long time, have a look always dust, couldn´t you...?" "NO! Where??" "Oh, you will find a place, please please!" Imediately it would start to cry.

To avoid thet the wood will warp I said "Ok, let´s see. But it´s not promised!" Beaming it looks back and was meaning: "I will help you as good as I can."  "Sure, I believe it. But now it´s time to sleep!" and went back to bed.

The first coffee in the morning was not tasting. So I went to the cellar and looked around where I can move someting to built it up. The ironing board for patchwork I can fold. I do not sew so often. The boxes into the shelf then I have enough space directly before the window and still enough to move in the rest of the room. I urgently must dispose the old things I really do not need anymore to use the existing storage better :-)

The backbone I really could assemble alone within 2 hours.

Meanwhile I removed some failures in small steps. Small steps because I must switch between loom and internet up and down. Something with the brake was wrong and recently after reading 5 times of teh French-English manual I found the failure. There must be a piece between the both feathers. I attached the bis feather directly into the leave spring and was wondering that the brake was always blocked. The solution with the flower chain and the curtain ring was not really stabile. So we were yesterday in the hardwaremarked where I found a solution: a turnbuckle. You can buy it on OBI for approximately 13,-€ or in the special item market for 1,19€. I think the cheap version would be good enough for me as I don´t want to built the loom once more in the garden where I would need a stainless steel material.

And now the brake works as it should.

But I would dye real blue. The ones with prived were not so successful, the resukt was more silvergrey till lightblue. Not so dark as the soup has promised. So I searched what else I can use instead of Indigo. And I really found a local plant which have Indigo inside, i.e woad. And as there is nothing you cannot order in the www I found a supplier for some seed of this.

The start in the small indoor-pots did not work. So I took them as teh weather was little warmer in a big pot outside. Now I have to wait and pray that the both little green leaves are woad.

Waid? - Woad?

The same disaster I had with the real INdigo seed. In the package was a descrition that this is a "light sprout". That means for me they would not have soil over it. But then it´s not easy to grow because water will not really com on it. As I saw that the half of the seed was mildewed I removed these once and the rest I press a little deeper. And really after 2 says the first look out!

  1. Cara, your Inca looks great. I believe you have the countermarche version as you have the shelf at the very top whereas mine has the rolled beam. Very nice setup! I would guess that your reed is probably a 12 dpi (ie. 12 dents per inch). If you look really closely at the metal part on either end or the bottom of it, it's usually engraved very lightly. Failing that, you can put a ruler against it and count how many spaces there are in an inch. It's a good standard one to have. Another you may want to invest in will be a 10 dpi. With those two you can work with a lot of combinations of threads.

Good luck... hoping to see more weaving projects from you.

    1. I think I saw a paper unter the upper bar of the reed holder. As the first project is finished I will open it and have a look if I can find it. On the sides I saw only "Leclerc" and a "W1" but it´s a little rusted. I will brush it and look if I can find any other mark. Counting is a good idea. I made it, but as I did not know what the numbers mean I have no idea what it could be. Germans reed are called 40/10. I think that means 40 dents per 10 cm. And the higher the first number the finer the reed. Will be similar in inch. I´ll keep you informed :-)
